Baubles & Bows garland (FREE Crochet Pattern)

Writer's picture: stitchmeawkwardstitchmeawkward

Deck the halls with cro-chet gar-lands fa la la la la...la la la laaaa!

Who says baubles are just for the tree? I love making our flat look christmassy in every room. This hangs above the bed, but maybe you have a cute fireplace/mantlepiece/bookcase to decorate?

This is a super easy make if you need a quick chroject fix (chroject = christmas crochet project (hmm, somehow I doubt that’ll catch on…).

Anyway, let’s get started!

You’ll Need:

  • 4mm & 4.5mm hook

  • <50g DK yarn in 3 colours (I used scrap white, grey, and Stylecraft Batik DK in ‘Raspberry’ for the center)

  • Approx 3m of white ribbon (I used Bowtique Satin Polyester 3mm-wide ribbon)

  • Darning needle

  • Scissors

Bauble (Make 8)

Using 4mm hook

In COLOUR 1 (Raspberry)

R1: Make a magic ring. Ch3 (this counts as your first treble). Place 15 trbs into ring. Change to COLOUR 2 (Grey) and sl st into top of beginning ch3. [16 sts]

R2: Ch4 (this counts as your first treble and ch1). *1 trb into top of next trb, ch1* rep * to * around until you have 16 trbs. Sl st into 3rd ch of beginning ch4. [16 sts]

R3: Ch3, 2 trbs into ch1 space from prev round, *1 trb into top of next st, 2 trbs in next ch1 sp* rep * to * around. Change to COLOUR 3 (White) and sl st to top of beginning ch3. [48 sts]

To make the bauble top: ch2, 1 htr into same stitch (base of ch2), 2 htrs in next st, 2 htrs in next st, ch1, turn, 1 dc in next 5 sts (top of prev htrs). Cut yarn and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Adding the bow (Make 8)

Cut a 12 inch/30cm piece of ribbon. With the WS of the bauble facing, hook each ribbon end into the sts at the bottom of the bauble as close to the middle as you can, leaving three stitches between each ribbon end.

Ensuring the ribbon ends are threaded through the RS of the bauble, tie two knots to secure before tying into a bow. Pull gently on bow ends to tighten. Snip your ribbon ends as desired.

Joining the baubles

Using 4.5mm hook

Ch6 then sl st into the 6th ch from the hook (1st ch you made) to form a loop. Ch20 and with RS of baubles facing, dc in each of the top dcs.

Ch20 in between each bauble, joining the next bauble with a dc into each of the top dc stitches. Continue all the way along until you have all baubles attached. Finish with ch26 and sl st into the 6th ch from the hook. Ch1, cut yarn and fasten off. Weave in ends.

If you’d prefer your baubles to be closer/further apart simply reduce/increase the number of chs.

Yay, you’re all done! I really hope you enjoyed making your festive garland =)
